Contest:

Contest means to actively fight for control of an objective so the opposing team cannot capture, move, or hold it uncontested. In Overwatch 2, the term is used in objective modes such as Control, Push, Escort, and Flashpoint when at least one player is present on or near the objective and combat is preventing progress.

Contest is important because it can stop objective progress, delay a capture, or keep a round from ending. The term also appears in challenges and match callouts, where “contesting” usually means staying on the objective and surviving long enough to interrupt the enemy’s control.
